Cherwell Heating was approached by the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Causeway, Bicester.

The Church had a very old electric under floor heating system which had been failing gradually over many years and was incredibly expensive to run. The disruption to the fabric of the building would have been too much to replace the system like for like,  they invited us to suggest alternatives that would be in keeping with the heritage site church whilst providing something acceptable to the priests and regular worshipers.

 They wanted a gas fired boiler with radiators, and although the pipe runs would require some thought as well as the positioning of the radiators they wanted it completed during a three week period when the Deacon was away.

We started work immediately after the Deacon had left with materials arriving on the first morning, copper pipe was chosen as the preferred option as it would age and blend into the existing brick work, the pipe work was installed at low level where possible and around the internal doorways, fixed to the brickwork, the radiators are wall mounted at low level around the perimeter.

To accommodate the boiler we converted a cleaner’s cupboard into a small boiler room, this was all done whilst working round the church’s busy schedules of mass, services and funerals. By the time the Deacon returned the radiators were hung, pipe work installed and we were finishing off the boiler room ready for the gas board to lay a new gas supply for the high efficiency condensing boiler, this was complete with outside compensation and range rated to reduce costs to the church and ensure a warm reception to the congregation, The system was then commissioned and left operational and completed on schedule and within budget.
